Getting Dirty

This past Saturday I participated in the Dirty Girl Mud Run for the third year in a row. For those of you who aren't familiar, it's 5K with obstacles, most of which involve mud. The first year I did it I was so nervous. A good friend talked me into it, against my better judgement. I don't run, I generally don't like mud and I wasn't too sure how I felt about obstacles. Turns out it was an absolute blast!

Finally, Fall Fun

Normally I love fall, except for the fact that it precedes winter. This year though, I've been feeling kind of "meh" about the whole fall thing. All of a sudden I feel like I'm too busy, it's too cold and it's getting dark too soon. October flew past in a blur and I'm already stressing about Christmas. We hadn't picked apples, gone for any hikes, made any leaf piles, put up Halloween decorations or carved jack o' lanterns. Thankfully today ended up being just the kind of fall day I was looking for. We started off with two chilly windy soccer games. Sasha had her last soccer game of the fall season and scored several goals. She has a great team and loved every minute of the season.

So Long, Farewell, Auf Wiedersehen, Goodbye

Well, it's official...summer is almost over and I can't say I'm particularly thrilled about it. I absolutely love summer. First of all, I'm not a morning person. At all. So not having to set an alarm is one of my all time favorite things. Secondly, I love warm weather. Being able to leave the house without having to pile on layers of clothes makes me very very happy. Also I love swimming, beaches, reading/napping under a shady tree, lemonade, iced tea and basil. Tomatoes, green beans and cucumbers are my favorite vegetables. And honestly, I love having my kids around.

Easter 2011

We had a wonderful Easter this year. Saturday we got together with Justin's Dad's side of the family. Jordan and Sasha had lots of fun playing with the other kids inside and out while Justin and I got to eat, relax and hang out with adults. Sunday I made sausage and egg breakfast sandwiches, which never happens and the kids hunted for and found their Easter baskets.

Sasha's Third Birthday

The best thing about warm Novembers is going to the park for Sasha's birthday (this was our second year in a row). I felt bad because "the big day" was none too fun. Sasha was recovering from a fever (meaning mommy wouldn't let her have any sugar) and both Justin and I had to work, so the only time we were together was at breakfast. We did sing Happy Birthday before Jordan left for school, and I managed to dig up a gold party hat and three yellow balloons (the last ones in the party box). We didn't even have her present because we decided to get her a sled and Target (the only store we'd had time to look at) didn't have them in stock yet.

Teeth, Fairies, Etc.

Big news everyone...Jordan got three new teeth this weekend! That brings the grand total up to 5. He's actually starting to get hair now too and he walks almost everywhere. I can't believe how big he's getting! Now if he would just outgrow his infant car seat carrier thing I could get him one of those car seats that you leave in the car and my back might recover from hauling him around in the carrier. Also the permanent bruises on my legs from the car seat slamming into them might heal.

I get the joy of planning Jordan's first birthday party now too. I think there are going to be about 30 people invited so it should be great fun. Luckily less than half of those are children, so while our house will be packed full, hopefully the level of destruction won't be too bad. Another exciting thing that I'm preparing for is Halloween. Months before Jordan was even born, Justin and I decided that we were going to take him trick-or-treating this year, even though he's far too young to eat candy. This way, we get to eat all of it. Selfish? Yes. Do I care? NO.

Update

I suppose it's time for an update. Even Heather has updated her blog, so I know I am falling behind. I was going to say that not too much has been happening, but that isn't entirely true. The reception, as I'm sure all of you know, went off smashingly...although I didn't get to spend as much time with my friends (that means ya'll) as I would have liked. Oh well...I'm sure I will see you all again someday. (Heather I hear you're planning a little trip, and I was thinking, maybe I can swing it). Justin and I got a lot of fun presents for our reception, so that was cool. (And thank you notes will be out any day now, really, just need to buy some, write 'em all out, get stamps, and then drop them in the mail box, no sweat).
